Luxembourg Upcycling Challenge
Unleash your creativity and join the challenge!
The Luxembourg Upcycling Challenge aims to promote new talent that has not yet been brought to light. The winner will be selected by a jury and the best pieces will be presented at a fashion show at the Cloche d'Or shopping centre on 15 June. The piece should be ready by June 1st.
What is upcycling?
Upcycling involves using materials that already exist and transforming them to extend the life of the material. In this way, the personal carbon footprint can be reduced.
Only 0.1% of clothing in Luxembourg is upcycled, and many people are not even familiar with the concept. Some accessories are already made in Luxembourg by upcycling, but few people make clothes.
Who can enter the competition?
What do I have to provide?
- You need to make a box jacket in sizes M to XL.
- A box jacket is a straight-cut jacket.
- It must have a zip or buttons, long sleeves and pockets and must be made using existing fabrics or garments.
Where to sign up?
Sign up via letzrefashion@gmail.com up until March 29.
Is there anything to win?
The winner will receive prizes including a personal workshop with content designer Natascha Bintz on the theme of brand creation, as well as a professional photo shoot with Eilijah Photography. What's more, the best jacket will be sold at the Lët'z Refashion centre to benefit the winner.
Since 2021, Lët'z Refashion by Caritas has been selling upcycled and second-hand clothing and accessories. In addition, people can discover alternative modes of consumption to fast fashion or buying so-called new clothes. By supporting small businesses, the value of craftsmanship is highlighted. The project also gives artists the chance to sell their products in a place dedicated to circular economy.
Lët'z Refashion is a Caritas project as part of the Rethink Your Clothes campaign, which was launched in 2018. The Campaign is implemented by Caritas Luxembourg & the NGO Fairtrade Lëtzebuerg, on behalf of Luxembourg Aid & Development.
